Become a Connector

For decades, the New Orleans area has suffered from a “brain drain” as recent college graduates left New Orleans in pursuit of opportunities elsewhere.  A silver lining to Hurricane Katrina has been the influx of college educated, mission-driven “brain gainers.” 504ward, developed by The Idea Village in collaboration with a broad spectrum of New Orleans business and civic organizations, seeks to retain this young talent as a key component to the long-term revitalization of the New Orleans region and a primary driver of a vibrant economy. 504ward aims to address the issues pertinent to the 23-35 year-old dynamic: career prospects, social engagement, and opportunity for community impact.

Now, we are seeking support from the local business and civic communities.   By instilling strong ties, both within this new generation and across generational lines, the New Orleans region has a greater chance for long-term success.

Becoming a Connector
Interested in becoming a connector in the 504connect Program?  We will do our best to match you with a young professional in our community, a “504,” to the wisdom of your knowledge and the support of your networks.  Your time is our most valuable asset and we greatly appreciate your interest in sharing it with us!

With Whom will you Connect
These incredibly bright individuals, between the ages of 23 – 35 have committed to live and work in New Orleans.  They are lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, urban planers, non-profit professionals and investment consultants.  They are most interested in alternative sources of energy, improving the quality of politics and education and making our city a safe place to live and build a business.

You will be blown away by their talent, passion for New Orleans, and sheer intelligence.  Some of them were born in New Orleans, most hail from other parts of the nation. To say that we are fortunate to have them in our community is a gross understatement.

Importance of Your Role as a Connector
Connectors may provide support and one-on-one guidance to help 504s shape and pursue their personal and/or professional goals.  Some 504s will need personal career coaching and support in achieving their goals and dreams.  Others will want you to be a sounding board for their ideas on business plans or life choices.  You may serve as a role model or you may be a resource for information and introductions.  All of our 504 participants want to become involved in the community in a meaningful way.   You can help them navigate the New Orleans Networks!
