“Dear Universe, in 2012 can you please bring me $50,000 for my luminescent business idea? I’ve been super good and I left you cookies on the table. Thanks so much, Me. (P.S. I’ll take it in 100s and 50s.)” Ready to make wishful thinking more real than bunions on reindeer hooves in December? Enter the Tulane Business Plan Competition for your chance to win $50,000 and fund lifelong foot massages for you and your business venture.
Tulane Business Plan Competition supports independent ventures younger than two years old, with less than $25,000 capital built on principles of “conscious capitalism.” Translation? Cheat sheet found here, but in short, whether non-profit or for-profit, you actually don’t cheat, work for greater good, aim to be sustainable, and offer free Girl Scout cookies. Okay, maybe not the last part. But we do feel free Thin Mints well illustrate all of the above.
First round only requires a 6-page abstract by January 22, an easy task while indulging in time off to chug eggnog and light candles. Top twenty write full business plans, and top three present live at Tulane. Catch: you need an enrolled or just graduated student involved. No mortarboard-er handy? Check out local business schools, or alternatively, occupy a street corner with the placard “Entrepreneurial Student Wanted; Benefits Include Job/$50,000.” It’s a tough economy. Shouldn’t be hard to find. But $50,000 is, so don’t miss out.

Perk: since you already live in New Orleans, you’ll have the upper hand on all the other finalists who have to deal with things like jet lag and city envy when they arrive.
